Where Are They Now? – Kate Maberly

Kate Maberly as "Dinah" in "The Langoliers" ('95)

I was watching “The Langoliers” over the weekend for the next episode of the Stephen King Movie Club, and got to wondering what some of these actor types are doing now. That lead me, of course, to Google and IMDb. I was looking up the various characters to see what’s going on with them. I thought that my research into these various thespians of the silver screen (or copper screen, I guess, if made for TV) may interest you. So I figured, why not do a weekly segment about it here on the blog.

Whilst browsing the cast of “The Langoliers,” I came across Kate Maberly, who played Dinah (the little blind girl) in “The Langoliers.” My attention was drawn to her for 2 reasons:

  1. Her birthday is the same exact day as my wife’s birthday, March 14, 1982
  2. She is a knockout!

So I guess you could say, she is the first in this series because of my love for my wife, but my keen eye for other hotties. Calm down ladies! I know you’re clambering all over yourself and each other to get at a guy THIS nice, but I am called for. 😉

Now that my feeble attempt at sarcasm via text has gotten your attention, let’s move on.

Kate Maberly Looking Stunning at the 2010 Beverly Hills Film Festival

Prior to her role in “The Langoliers,” she was in “The Secret Garden,” which I felt was of note. As I recall, that was a pretty successful movie back in 1993. After “The Langoliers,” she was in, I’m skimming over it a bit here,  a made for TV version of “Gulliver’s Travels” (’96), “Finding Neverland” (’04), “Like Minds” (’06), “Boogeyman 3” (’08) and a TV series called, “The Booth at the End” (’10-’11) which I actually watched, but didn’t recognize her at the time. She has a much greater resume than my summary of it, just touching on the ones that caught my attention.   She also has several projects in the works, including “The Story of Bonnie and Clyde” due out later this year.

Seeing her as this blind, innocent little girl in my mind for so long, had an effect on me when I saw a couple of newer photos of her that I found on IMDb and in Google searches. She is all growed up! I want to say that I am just stoked that she hasn’t faded into obscurity, which happens with actors now-and-again. I was surprised, although Hollywood being the way that it is, I suppose I shouldn’t be, (said the Oregonian that’s never been to Hollywood) to find that she had gotten mostly nude in 2006’s “Like Minds.” I would like to think that this is a family friendly blog, by which I mean I don’t want to look like a perv by putting up nOOdz, so I won’t post the picture here, but I’m sure you could find the pic if you looked around for it (or clicked here.) In this day and age, what’s a little topless shot for a movie anyway.

I know I seem like Judgey McJudgerson, residing at 1 Jerkface Lane in Snobbyballs, USA, but that wasn’t the point or goal. I was just surprised because I had this very wholesome image of her in my mind for so long. I felt a little dirty when I saw her newer pictures, because I thought to myself, “Wow! She’s hot!” and then the image of her as a 13-year-old came to mind. Needless to say, I felt like a dirty old man. Even though now she is exactly the same age as my wife, which I am pretty sure I covered already. Just stating that if I’m being judgemental, its toward myself.

Anyway, I am looking forward to seeing this Bonny and Clyde project she is working on and I remember being really impressed by her work on “The Booth at the End.”  Have you seen any of her newer stuff? What did you think? DO you like this new blog segment? Leave a comment and let me know!
